The assessment
of CTA data sets is a tedious and time consuming task, since it usually involves
hundreds of CTA images to be examined in clinical practice. Thus a fully
automated segmentation system is needed for detection of stenosis. This can be
done using 3D projection images since visualization of 3D is better compared to
2D image sets. Segmentation of coronary arteries involves techniques such as
image smoothening, vessel enhancement, localized thresholding and connected
component labeling. To detect the stenosis from the segmented images, centerline
extraction technique is applied to extract the centerline of the vessel. The presence
of stenosis is confirmed by finding the discontinuities in the vessel, calculating the
thickness and the intensity of the vessel.
