The most important property of photonic crystals is the presence of a frequency range (bandgap) where the propagation is forbiddendue to the periodic modulation of the refractive index. When a point defect is introduced into a photonic crystal, a microcavity is formed and the energy of light is trapped into a small area around the defect. my goal is to calculate the transmission and the quality factor of the cavities based on 2 D photonic crystal by the FDTD method
