This Matlab program implements geodesic active contour model. Geodesic Active contour. The geodesic active contour model as introduced by Caselles et al., provides an alternative model for edge detection that is derived from the classical active contour model. This approach is equivalent to finding geodesic distance of two points on a carefully chosen Riemannian space. This new model does not suffer from some of the limitations of the classical active contour model. Because of the intrinsic nature of this model, changes in geometry of contours are handled automatically, hence multiple objects could be recognized simultaneously. Furthermore, this new approach uses less parameters, so the need for preprocessing the image is reduced. Also, this approach is less prone to variation on the edges, allowing object with non-ideal edges to be recognized.
