OpenCV was established in 1999 by Intel, and now supported by Willow Garage. OpenCV is a based on the (open source) release cross-platform computer vision library that can run on Linux, Windows and Mac OS operating systems. It's lightweight and efficient--a set of c functions and a few C++ classes, while providing JAVA, Python, Ruby, MATLAB, and other language interfaces, implements image processing and computer vision, many of the generic algorithms. The latest version was released on April 25, 2014 2.4.9.
OpenCV is Intel ® open source computer vision library. It consists of a set of c functions and a few C++ classes, implemented many aspects of image processing and computer vision algorithms.
OpenCV has included more than 300 more in cross-platform, high level API c function. It is not dependent on other external libraries-although you can also use some external libraries.
OpenCV for non- Commercial applications And commercial applications are free (FREE). (Details refer to the license).
OpenCV for Intel ® Integrated Performance Primitives (IPP) provides a transparent interface. This means that if you have optimized for specific IPP library, OpenCV automatically load them at run time library
