Application background this is a compressed matlab code spectral subtraction of single channel noise reduction. By Philips C. loiso. The Attached CD-ROM provides a representative matlab implementation of speech enhancement algorithm and evaluation of the enhancement algorithm. The key technology spectral subtraction is a simple and effective speech enhancement technology, which is used to recover speech degradation from fixed additive noise. Subtraction was performed in the amplitude spectral domain to analyze the Mody cation synthesis (AMS) type framework. The method of small window duration (20 – 40ms) enables speech signal to be considered as quasi synchronous. Unfortunately, spectral subtraction has a major drawback by presenting an unpleasant residual noise, referred to as musical noise. This residual is due to spurious random peaks in the amplitude spectrum of the enhanced speech. These peaks are based on the result of subtraction, which is caused by the high square error of noise amplitude spectrum estimation.
