This paper introduces the design of small and medium-sized multilevel D-STATCOM inverter (10 – 20 kW) permanent magnet wind or solar power device. The proposed inverter can provide active regulation of reactive power in a programmable output while providing variable output power to the individual feeder of renewable energy. The goal is to provide utility and distribution control for reactive power compensation and power factor correction feeder lines. The converter adopts the topology of 5 hybrid clamp multilevel voltage source converter and adopts the optimized harmonic elimination technology. The topology allows the separation of active and reactive power control and the ability to operate under any load condition. The reactive power is controlled by the modulation index and the phase angle controlled by the active power. Simulation and verification of the proposed inverter are carried out using matlabgsimulink and SimPowerSystems toolbox.
