What is optical flow? The name is very professional and strange, but in essence, we are most familiar with it. Because of this visual phenomenon, we experience it every day. In essence, optical flow is the obvious visual movement you feel in the moving world (hehe, relativity, no absolute stillness, no absolute movement). For example, when you are sitting on a train and looking out of the window. You can see the trees, the ground, the buildings and so on, they're all going back. This movement is optical flow. What's more, we all find that their movement speed is different? This provides us with a very interesting information: judging the distance between different targets and us by the speed of their movement. Some distant targets, such as clouds and mountains, move very slowly and feel like they are still. But some objects that are closer to us, such as buildings and trees, tend to move back faster. The closer they are to us, the faster they move back. Some very close objects, such as road markings, grass and so on, seem to make a swish sound near our ears.
