Resource description your MCU 5V and stepper motor work need 12V operation. Therefore, the microcontroller port pin cannot drive the motor itself. They need something called a drive circuit. The circuit usually needs low level signals from the controller and converts them into high voltage / current signals, which are able to excite the stator windings.
