What netcat does is to establish a link between two computers and return two data streams. What you can do after that depends on your imagination. You can set up a server, transfer files, chat with friends, stream media or use it as an independent client for other protocols. Some main functions of netcat: support for outbound and inbound connection, TCP and UDP, any source and destination port. All DNS forward / backward checks with appropriate warnings. Use any source port. Use any locally set network source address. Built in port scanning function, with random number generator. Built in loose source routing function. Standard input may read command line parameters.
