Inertial element (accelerometer) is used to measure the acceleration of the carrier itself, and the velocity and position are obtained through integral sum operation, so as to achieve the purpose of navigation and positioning of the carrier. The equipment of inertial navigation system is installed in the carrier body, and it does not rely on external information, nor radiate energy to the outside, so it is not easy to be interfered. It is an autonomous navigation system. Inertial navigation system is usually composed of inertial measurement device, computer, control display and so on. Inertial measurement device includes accelerometer and gyroscope, also known as inertial measurement unit. Three degrees of freedom gyroscopes are used to measure the three rotational motions of the carrier, and three accelerometers are used to measure the acceleration of the three translational motions of the carrier. The computer calculates the velocity and position data of the carrier according to the measured acceleration signal. The control display displays various navigation parameters. According to the installation mode of inertial measurement unit (IMU) on the carrier, it is divided into platform inertial navigation system (IMU is installed on the platform of inertial platform) and strapdown inertial navigation system (IMU is directly installed on the carrier); the latter saves the platform, the working condition of the instrument is poor (affecting the accuracy), and the calculation workload is large.
