Basic point sequence alignment algorithm. When newgenes discovered that the standard way to understand its function reasonably was to look at the close match between the database of known genes and summer clothes. The two genes that are so close are measured by the extent to which they are aligned. Formally, I think of the gene = {a, C, G, t} on the alphabet σ as a long string.
