Nowadays embedded solutions based on platform ARM are finding their place on the market. The ARM platform is very popular in the area of mobile devices such as the smart phones, personal players of audio and video, GPS systems etc. This paper describes usage of the IGEPv2 DM3730 device with software for the collecting and processing of physical data. The operating system chosen was the Ubuntu distribution of GNU/Linux operating system, which was adapted for use with the ARM platform. Data source for the proposed measurement system is represented by a sensor network connected to the device through the I2C interface. The data is stored in local databases on the memory card of the device. This paper includes the comparison of the database systems for the proposed application. A Very Simple User Access Control Technique throug

Large scale adoption of smart devices like smart mobile phones for personal usage has opened up an opportunity to identifY individuals via their smart device identities. This paper aims to achieve very simple technique of users' access control through device authentication using a microcontrolier board such as Arduino that interacts with the smart device using Bluetooth technology which is almost available in every smart device. The implementation procedure is discussed through the experimentation. As a methodology of secured communication, password protection is used in the mobile apps. Some possible application areas are discussed in which the proposed methodology may be applied to enable appropriate services. The novelty of this work is to provide a simple and low cost solution for users' access in a secured protected place. Further, the proposed authentication mechanisms are intuitive and require minimum effort.

NavEye: Smart Guide for Blind Students

 Blind students all over the world need guidance to navigate around the city or university campus. It is estimated that 374,400 visually impaired students attended colleges at some point in the United States alone. With the rapid technological advancement, new opportunities are emerging to make life easier for blind students. Motivated by the problem, the objective of this project is to design, prototype and evaluate a smart guidance system to help blind students navigate from and to classrooms. To design such a system, the design team had to exercise several design steps typically involved in an engineering design process. The steps include literature research, requirements specification, solution brainstorming, system functional decomposition, functional modeling, prototype implementation and testing.
