A standard reference clock is used to count the number of pulses of the measured signal in a unit time such as 1s, which is the frequency of the signal. Since the start and end time of the gate are random for the signal, there will be quantization error of the pulse period, and the measurement accuracy will be further analyzed. Therefore, the direct frequency measurement method is only suitable for measuring signals with higher frequency, and can not meet the requirement of keeping the measurement accuracy unchanged in the whole measurement frequency band. In order to get high accuracy in the whole frequency band, other methods such as equal precision measurement should be considered.
